Roll up! Roll up!
We have such a show for you,
Robes, priests, processions, incense,
Fabulous clothes and sonorous words,
Some in old languages, poetry,
Songs – an amazing spectacle!
What do we celebrate?
well, it’s a death, unusually followed by life.
Where is that life? Not in the
spectacle, not in the words or the music
Not in the clothes or the pillars
Not in stained glass nor in incense,
Arches nor altars.
Obediently we stand in line
Receiving bread, and sometimes wine:
sensing what we have been told
for all that glisters is not gold,
and seeing nothing of the loss
of human life upon the cross;
murdered because he could unfold
the truth that prophets once foretold
killed because he was too bold.
A few who sensed that spectacle could hide
the deeper truth that lay inside
and saw the corrupting force of power
beneath which lesser souls must cower
stood silently in wind and rain
to beg the Spirit, ‘Come again’.

This site was created on 16th February, 2013 by members of the Vigil Group. We needed a means of co-ordinating our efforts and to provide a forum for ourselves and anyone else who might be interested. We see the site as an outlet for our thinking and a way of publicizing what we are about. We principally seek to be renewed in the Holy Spirit and to see renewal of the Catholic Church by the same Holy Spirit. We gather around the person of Jesus Christ and uplift him as the Way, the Truth and the Life.
We hope for and value your comments.
