Popular culture would sometimes have us believe
that Christmas has
and sureness about it.
That our God is coming, we know;
that He is coming to save us, we proclaim
that He is coming for each one of us, we celebrate.
in this reading from the book of Numbers
we have a reminder
that our God meets us in a landscape of paradox;
that His presence and arrival and encounter
can be other than our expectations;
that we can be confused about God and His coming.
And that is all right.
Because He is coming.
